Socioeconomic Causes of the Colombian Armed Conflict
Sociologist and renowned author Alfredo Molano Bravo will speak on the historic socioeconomic causes of the oldest armed conflict in the Americas. Doctor David García Rodríguez will serve as respondent to the keynote address.
With the start of the peace talks between the Colombian government and the FARC drawing near, it is very important to raise awareness and contribute to an increased understanding of the origins and development of the Colombian conflict. Alfredo Molano is one of the main scholars in the subject, and combines his knowledge with his experience as author and journalist, giving him a privileged point of view that combines general trends and historical events with individual experience and testimony. From this unique perspective, he can also offer his valuable input about the participants of the upcoming talks and the relevant factors that may influence their outcome. Doctor David García Rodríguez, philosopher and historian, has worked since 2010 as a Special Advisor on Policy and Human Rights for the Colombian Congress. Simultaneous interpretation will be available: English-Spanish.
