“Philologies of the Twenty-First Century: The Murty Classical Library of India and the Library of Arabic Literature”
This year marks the debut of two ambitious publishing initiatives—the Murty Classical Library of India
and the NYU Press Library of Arabic Literature—aimed at preserving and making available hundreds of key works of classical and premodern literature that, in many cases, have yet to be disseminated in languages other than the one of original authorship. This event brings together Philip F. Kennedy and Sheldon Pollock, two scholars who are spearheading these initiatives, for a discussion and comparison of the respective inception, scope, and ambition of each project, and why each is a direct response to the needs of a hyper-globalized era. Moderated by Chase Robinson.
