SCREENING OF THE TULSA RACE RIOTS OF 1921 "BEFORE THEY DIE"


On May 30th, 1921, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in less than 24 hours, the prosperous African-American section of Greenwood, also known as "Black Wall Street," was completely destroyed. An estimated 300 killed, and over 10,000 people displaced overnight as a 42 square block area of their homes and businesses were burned to the ground. - - Screening location: 1650 Bedford Avenue, 1st Floor/Founders Auditorium - - FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC - - Date: Sunday, March 10, 2013. Time: 3:00 PM - 4:30 PM. At 4:30 PM following the screening there will be a talk-back session with the producer and a group of panelists. Dr. Olivia Hooker, 97-year old survivor is expected to be in attendance - - Suggested donation: $5. Door prizes will be awarded. You must be present to win.
