Benefit Concert featuring The South African Youth Choir
The internationally acclaimed South African Youth Choir (SAYC) is one of the most exciting choral projects in the world today. Since its inception in 2005, the choir has showcased its vast abilities on both local and international platform, entertaining a variety of audiences across the globe.
Under the direction of Phil Robinson, who took over the reigns as conductor in 2013, the choir has been awarded “Best Youth Choir” at the prestigious ATKV Animato International Choral Competition for the past four years successive (2014 - 2017). The choir was recently crowned as Overall Winner of the 10th annual ATKV Animato International Choral Competition and palmed in awards for “Best Youth Choir”, “Best Prescribed Work”, “Best Traditional Work” and “Best Contemporary Work”. SAYC was also crowned “Best Regional Choir 19 Years & Younger” at the Tygerberg International Eisteddfod (2014). The Choir has positioned itself as one of the most sought-after performance choirs in South Africa and regularly performs and records with various local and international artists.
SAYC was recently honored by Disney with an award for their contribution to the Arts. After a successful extensive tour through the United States during October 2017, the Cities of Las Vegas
and Minneapolis honored the choir by declaring 16 October 2017 and 21 October 2017 as “South African Youth Choir Day” respectively in recognition of the choir’s standard of excellence and contribution to spreading goodwill in these cities.
The choir does not only promote a unique musical product of international standard, but also endorses raw and exceptional South African youth talent. The Choir currently consists of 54 high school learners and students between the ages of 13 - 25 years from all over South Africa, representing the diverse cultures of the country. In the true spirit of UBUNTU, the SAYC is a celebration of unity within cultural diversity.
