Drama Production: Moby Dick Rehearsed by Orson Wells
Moby Dick – Rehearsed
Come to the great film director Orson Welles’ theatrical adaptation of Herman Melville’s masterpiece, Moby Dick! It is an adventure story, about the mad Captain Ahab’s doomed hunt for the white whale, Moby Dick, to wreak vengeance upon him. But Welles also weaves in Melville’s radical work on race in America, on the oceanic, on international maritime labor, and his profound thought and beautiful language. Set in a theatre which becomes a ship, our stunning set brings us to another world, in which American whaling was a core of 19th century experience. Of special interest to English literature students, history students, cinema students, those interested in seas and ships and their history, and for anyone who likes a good story with fascinating characters.
This play features students from the College of Staten Island directed by Professor Maurya Wickstrom.
Set Design by Professor Kevin Judge, Costume Design by Betsy Rugg- Hinds, and Lighting Design by Matt Fick
