The Social and Structural Determinants of Urban American Indian and Alaska Native Health
The CUNY School of Medicine welcomes Dr. Andrea Garcia, Director of Community Centered Initiatives, Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health, and Monique Castro, Psychotherapist & Owner of Indigenous Circle of Wellness, who will discuss the importance of and how to recognize the tribal homelands on which you stand. They will discuss how two Federal Indian policies have impacted the demographic and health outcomes of American Indian and Alaska Native populations in urban areas and explain how identity may be associated with access to health care. Culturally sensitive care is needed and a best practice will be shared.
