I Wasn’t Supposed to Be Here
Finding my voice, finding my people, finding my way

Join us on Tuesday, Feb. 17 at 11 a.m. for an inspiring talk and reading with author Jonathan Conyers. In his moving and inspirational memoir, Bronx native Conyers describes how he overcame a difficult background thanks to the support of teachers, mentors, and coaches. Born into a family crippled by addiction and homelessness, Jonathan “failed” kindergarten and was told he would never succeed academically. Thanks to mentors like his transgender debate coach, he defied the odds and created a village to save his life and helped realize his dream to get into medical school.

Today Jonathan is a respiratory therapist, entrepreneur and co-founder of the Brooklyn Debate League. As a motivational speaker, he helps those who, like him, thought, “I wasn’t supposed to be here.”

A Q & A session, raffle (20 books will be awarded to students), book signing and reception will follow.
